"Reckon then that to acquire soul-winning power, you will have to go through mental torment and soul distress. You must go into the fire if you are going to pull others out of it, and you will have to dive into the floods if you are going to draw others out of the water. You cannot work a fire escape without feeling the scorch of the conflagration, nor man a lifeboat without being covered with the waves." -Charles Haddon Spurgeon v.35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; v.36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! v.37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. v.38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? v.39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. v.40 One of the two which heard John [speak], and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. v.41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. v.42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. Verse 41 says "He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ." This is one of those stories in the Bible that has a very happy ending. Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, had chosen to follow Christ and knew that his own brother, Simon, needed to be saved too. Simon Peter did get saved and became one of the greatest preachers of his day. Thousands came to Christ because of his being used of God! There is something that has come up missing in recent years in modern Christianity. There is a lack of teaching and preaching on soul winning, that is, the spreading of the Gospel in order to get folks saved. Many, who profess Christ and have the full assurance of their salvation, do not know how to lead a person to Christ.
Soul winning is necessary for a number of Scriptural reasons:
The truth is, the world is dying without any hope of Heaven because Christians do not know how to bring others to faith in Christ. Not only that, but many, who do know how to lead others to faith in Christ, refuse to do so! |
